Dog Licenses

All dogs in unincorporated areas of Pottawattamie County must be licensed. Pottawattamie County Animal Control licenses dogs for residents who live outside of city limits in unincorporated areas of the county. If you live within the city limits of a city or town (such as Council Bluffs or other incorporated cities), dog licensing is handled by that city, not the county.

Obtain Your Dog License

Option 1: Online Licenses

Save paperwork and time by submitting your dog license online via the Citizen Serve online portal.

Option 2: Download and Mail

For your convenience, you may also request a copy County Dog License Application and mail it along with:

  • Copy of your dog(s) current rabies vaccination certificate(s)
  • Proof of spay/neuter, if applicable
  • Check or money order for the amount due, payable to Pottawattamie County Treasurer
  • Self-addressed stamped envelope

Mail your completed application(s) to the Pottawattamie County Public Health, Attn: Animal Control, 515 5th Ave., Council Bluffs, IA 51503.

Option 3: In-Person

Residents may also obtain their licenses in person during regular business hours at Pottawattamie County Public Health, 515 5th Ave., Council Bluffs, IA 51503.
