A Governor’s Proclamation of Disaster Emergency has been approved for Pottawattamie County following heavy rainfall and flooding associated with the September 30–October 1, 2026, weather event.
The proclamation authorizes the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Iowa Disaster Case Advocacy Program for eligible residents. Individual Assistance provides grants for qualifying disaster-related expenses, such as temporary housing, food, personal property, and home repairs. Disaster Case Advocacy connects households with advocates who help identify unmet needs and access recovery resources.
Residents who experienced flood-related damage are encouraged to submit a damage report, including photos when available, to help document impacts and identify needs throughout the county. Submitting a damage report does not replace an application for assistance.
Residents can access damage reporting and information on applying for Disaster Case Advocacy and/or Individual Assistance through the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management flood information webpage. Applicants should review eligibility requirements, required documentation, and application deadlines.
