The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed Saturday, November 22, 2025, as National Adoption Day in Pottawattamie County, recognizing the life-changing impact of adoption and the families who open their homes to children in need of love and stability.
Each November, National Adoption Day celebrates families across the nation while drawing attention to the thousands of children waiting in foster care for a permanent home. Locally, the Fourth Judicial District of Iowa will host its annual National Adoption Day Celebration at the Pottawattamie County Courthouse, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22.
This year, local organizers plan to finalize the adoptions of 14 children, each representing a new beginning and the power of community support. The celebration will include refreshments, crafts, and professional family photography, all donated by community volunteers and local partners.
Judges, social workers, clerks, and court staff volunteer their time each year to make this day possible, transforming the courthouse into a place of joy and celebration. Families from across the Fourth Judicial District, which includes nine Southwest Iowa counties, will gather to mark the occasion with balloons, face painting, and heartfelt stories from past adoptive families.
“National Adoption Day is about more than finalizing adoptions,” said Judge Kathleen Kilnoski. “It’s about celebrating love, family, and the community that supports these children every step of the way.”
