Final Days to Apply for Ambassador for Peace Medal

Korean War veterans and their families have just a few days remaining to apply for the Ambassador for Peace Medal ahead of a presentation ceremony planned for November.
The Pottawattamie County Veterans Service Office is accepting applications through Wednesday, September 30, for the commemorative medal, which is presented by the Korean government to eligible U.S. veterans who served during and following the Korean War.
The Ambassador for Peace Medal is an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to U.S. veterans who served in Korea from June 25, 1950, through July 27, 1953, as well as veterans who participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations through the end of 1955. The medal may also be presented posthumously to a veteran's next of kin.
To be eligible, a veteran's DD-214 must document service in Korea and show receipt of at least one of the following:

Korean Service Medal

Korean War Service Medal

United Nations Service Medal
Eligible veterans and family members applying on behalf of a deceased veteran should complete the Ambassador for Peace Medal application and submit it along with a copy of the veteran's DD-214.
Applications must be received by Sept. 30 to be included in the upcoming ceremony. Following the deadline, applications will be sent to the Korean Consulate for processing.
The Pottawattamie County Veterans Service Office is working with counties throughout southwest Iowa to identify eligible veterans and families. The ceremony is anticipated to take place in November, with the specific date and location to be determined based on the number and geographic distribution of participating veterans and families, as well as the availability of representatives from the Korean Consulate.
