Community organizations, residents, and groups looking to recognize or raise awareness for a meaningful cause can now find proclamation request information on the county website.
Pottawattamie County has introduced a new proclamation request page to help residents and organizations submit proclamation requests more easily. The page outlines what information to include, submission timelines, and how proclamations are reviewed and presented during regular Board of Supervisors meetings.
Proclamations are issued at the Board of Supervisors’ discretion to honor, celebrate, or increase awareness of noteworthy events, achievements, or milestones that relate to the broader Pottawattamie County community. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
To allow time for review and preparation, requests must be submitted at least 21 calendar days before the date the proclamation is needed. Proclamations are typically read during regular Board of Supervisors meetings, held Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
What to Include in Your Request
When submitting a request, please be prepared to provide:
-
Whether a proclamation has been issued for the topic before (and the date, if known)
-
Contact information for the requesting individual or organization
-
The proclamation title/topic and draft language (including 4–8 “Whereas” clauses)
-
The requested proclamation date
How to Submit
Requests and questions should be directed to the Public Relations Manager using the information provided on the county’s Proclamation Request page.
