Pottawattamie County is excited to announce that volunteer registration for The Wall That Heals, which is coming to the area over Memorial Day weekend, is officially open!
The Wall That Heals is a traveling, three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., accompanied by a mobile Education Center that helps tell the story of the Vietnam War and honor those who served and sacrificed. The exhibit will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs throughout Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25.
Bringing The Wall That Heals to Pottawattamie County is a tremendous honor and a meaningful opportunity for our community to pay tribute to U.S. Armed Forces members who served in the Vietnam War, including the more than 58,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Volunteers are essential to making this event a success. Roles include:
-
Assisting with set-up and teardown of the Wall and Education Center
-
Staffing shifts around the clock to help visitors
-
Supporting ceremonies and special events held during the weekend
-
Helping ensure a respectful, welcoming space for reflection
-
Participating in the motorcade escort of the Wall and Education Center through the county
Whether individuals, families, service organizations, or student groups, your participation helps make this community tribute possible and meaningful.
