Road construction, maintenance and improvement projects can mean temporary lane closures, traffic restrictions or detours along Pottawattamie County's secondary road system. A free email notification service helps residents stay informed about upcoming projects and potential impacts to their travel.

Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads uses the Iowa Counties Road Notifications system through the ICEA Service Bureau to share information about planned work affecting county roads. Residents can subscribe to receive notifications by email when new projects are posted for Pottawattamie County.

Notifications provide information including the affected road, anticipated start and end dates, expected traffic impacts and a description of the planned work. Each notification also includes a map showing the location of the project.

“The road notifications email system is the most effective way we've found to notify Pottawattamie County residents of construction projects,” explained County Engineer Andy Wicks. “I'd recommend anybody sign up for this if they want to stay in the know for roadway projects the county is working on."

The amount of advance notice can vary depending on the project. Many planned Secondary Roads projects are announced one to two weeks in advance, while work involving utilities, railroads or other outside entities may be scheduled on a much shorter timeline.

Because emergency repairs resulting from severe weather, crashes or other unexpected events may require an immediate response, not every short-term impact to a county road will generate an email notification.
