Pottawattamie County is proud to recognize April 2026 as County Government Month, joining counties across the country in highlighting the essential services and programs that support residents every day.
Counties play a vital role in building healthy, safe and vibrant communities. From public safety and infrastructure to health services and community support programs, county government touches nearly every aspect of daily life for more than 330 million Americans.
“National County Government Month is an opportunity to increase awareness of the services counties provide and the impact they have on residents,” said the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors. “We are proud to serve our community and remain committed to protecting and enhancing the health, wellbeing and safety of our residents.”
This year’s recognition is especially meaningful as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. Counties have a long and rich history of serving residents and strengthening local communities, continuing to adapt and respond to evolving needs.
Since 1991, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties nationwide to use April as a time to elevate awareness of county responsibilities, programs and services.
Pottawattamie County encourages residents, schools and community partners to learn more about county government and participate in activities that highlight the important work happening across departments.
