Auditor’s Office Celebrates Becky Lenihan’s Retirement After 37 Years of Service

Pottawattamie County is celebrating Becky Lenihan, Finance and Tax Officer in the Auditor’s Office, as she retires following 37 years of dedicated service to the county.
During nearly four decades with Pottawattamie County, Becky has been a steady and knowledgeable presence in the Auditor’s Office, building an incredible depth of experience and helping guide the office through years of change.
County Auditor Mary Ann Hanusa shared her appreciation for Becky and the support she provided as Hanusa stepped into the Auditor role last year.
“She was incredibly helpful to me as a new auditor last year and has been the last word in finance in the Auditor’s Office,” Hanusa shared. “We will miss her terribly but are very happy that she is about to enjoy retirement.”
County Treasurer Lea Voss joined the Board in recognizing Becky, bringing humor to the occasion while reflecting on the experience and institutional knowledge that come with 37 years of public service.
From typewriters to changing technology and multiple generations of computer systems, Becky has seen plenty of changes during her time with the county. Voss joked that Becky has been around long enough to remember “every system we’ve replaced and then replaced again.”
Behind the jokes was a sincere appreciation for what Becky’s experience has meant to her colleagues.
“We’ll miss your experience and your ability to predict problems before they even happen,” Voss said. “After 37 years, you’ve more than earned long mornings, peaceful days and the freedom to laugh when we call you for help.”
Members of the Board also thanked Becky for her many years of service and recognized her family for sharing her with the county throughout her career.
Thirty-seven years represents countless changes, challenges and milestones, as well as a remarkable commitment to serving Pottawattamie County and its residents.
