The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed October 2025 as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of protecting personal and organizational digital information in an increasingly connected world.

The proclamation, signed by the Board of Supervisors on October 7, 2025, emphasizes the county’s commitment to fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness, education, and resilience. As reliance on technology continues to grow, so do the risks posed by cyber threats to personal information, financial security, and critical infrastructure.

“Cybersecurity isn’t just a concern for IT professionals, it’s a responsibility we all share,” said Anthony McCartney, Information Security Officer for Pottawattamie County. “By taking simple steps such as using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and staying alert for suspicious emails, phone calls, or text messages, every resident can help protect themselves and contribute to the safety of our community’s digital environment.”

Throughout the month, residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate in cybersecurity awareness activities, workshops, and training opportunities. The theme for this year underscores the importance of education, collaboration, and vigilance in keeping our digital environments secure.

Pottawattamie County invites all residents to learn more about safe online practices and take proactive measures to safeguard their digital information. By working together, the community can strengthen its resilience against cyber threats and ensure a safer digital future for everyone.
