The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed November 4–11, 2025, as Operation Green Light for Veterans Week in recognition of the service and sacrifices of the nation’s veterans and those transitioning from active duty to civilian life.
Operation Green Light is a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to show support for veterans by illuminating buildings and homes in green light during the week of Veterans Day. The campaign serves as a visible reminder that veterans are valued members of our communities and deserve ongoing support as they reintegrate into civilian life.
“Pottawattamie County is proud to join counties across the country in shining a green light in gratitude for the men and women who have served our nation,” said the Board of Supervisors. “This small gesture is a powerful way to demonstrate our appreciation and raise awareness of the challenges veterans face as they transition to civilian life.”
According to NACo, approximately 200,000 service members transition to civilian communities each year, and studies show that nearly half experience high levels of stress during this period. Operation Green Light aims to foster understanding, connection, and access to resources for those navigating this critical transition.
During the week of November 4–11, Pottawattamie County will illuminate county buildings in green as part of this national show of support. The Board encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to participate by displaying a green light in a window or outside their homes to honor local veterans and their families.
“By lighting up our county in green, we send a clear message to our veterans: you are seen, appreciated, and supported,” the Board’s proclamation reads.
