At its September 23 meeting, the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation recognizing the Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO) for five decades of service to the region.

Founded in 1975, SWIPCO provides regional planning, technical assistance, and community development services to counties and communities across southwest Iowa. Over the past 50 years, the organization has strengthened communities through strategic planning, grant writing, housing assistance, public transit, disaster recovery, and economic development initiatives.

The Board’s proclamation highlights SWIPCO’s ongoing partnerships with local governments, nonprofits, and residents to improve quality of life, create opportunities, and promote sustainable growth. It also acknowledges the commitment of SWIPCO’s board members, staff, and volunteers, whose efforts have advanced infrastructure and supported the unique needs of rural communities.

“Reaching a 50-year milestone is a remarkable achievement,” said Board Chair Scott Belt. “SWIPCO’s dedication to collaboration and innovation has made a lasting difference throughout the communities of southwest Iowa.”

The proclamation concludes with the County’s sincere appreciation for SWIPCO’s invaluable contributions and its vision for the future of the region.
