Pottawattamie County Asks Residents to Report Storm and Flood Damage

Posted October 1, 2026

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management is asking residents who experienced property damage from the September 30–October 1 heavy rainfall and flooding to submit a damage report through the county’s website.

Heavy rainfall caused localized flooding, rising creek levels, road closures, mudslides, and reports of flooded basements. Reports from residents will help Emergency Management document the extent of damage and better assess community needs.

Residents can report damage at:
www.pottcounty-ia.gov/emergency_management/heavy_rain_flooding_september_30_october_1_2026/

Residents are encouraged to include photos and a description of the damage. Document impacts only when it is safe to do so, and do not enter floodwater or unsafe structures to take photographs.

Submitting a damage report helps officials understand the storm’s impacts; it does not constitute an application for financial assistance or guarantee assistance will be available. Residents should also contact their insurance provider regarding any potential claim.
