Community Shows Up and Shines a Spotlight on Public Health at Open House

On Tuesday, June 3, the Pottawattamie County Public Health Open House welcomed approximately 200 guests for an afternoon of connection, discovery, and celebration at the Health Services Building in downtown Council Bluffs.

The come-and-go event offered an opportunity for community members, partners, and representatives from local, county, and state government to explore the services housed in the facility, which opened to the public in November 2024. Attendees included members of the public, local and regional health organizations, community partners and educators, and more than half of the county departments.

Throughout the building, attendees could meet staff, pick up educational materials, and tour the building including viewing displays highlighting the programs and services provided by Public Health, Animal Control, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program. A looping presentation showcased building construction photos provided by Boyd Jones, department milestones, and the wide-reaching impact of public health efforts in Pottawattamie County.

“We’re thrilled to see such a strong turnout from the community and our partners,” said Matt Wyant, Director of Planning and Development. “This facility was designed to bring vital public health services under one roof, and it’s exciting to open the doors and let everyone see what’s happening here.”

Since its opening, the Health Services Building has already become a hub for collaborative work and community programming. One space drawing particular interest during the Open House was the state-of-the-art training room, which has already been used more than 20 times by community partners for health-related meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Public Health looks forward to expanding those partnerships and increasing use of this resource in the months ahead.

The county extends its thanks to everyone who attended or helped make the event possible. We’re proud to serve the people of Pottawattamie County and excited to continue building a healthier future together.
