Polling Places & COVID-19
In an effort to keep our voters and Precinct Election Officials safe on Election Day we will be combining our polling places into just a handful of Regional Polling Places. For a breakdown of where you will vote on Election Day take a look at the Regional Polling Places section below. Please note that these are based off of where you normally vote and voters must go to the regional polling location that they have been assigned to.
To avoid potential long lines on Election Day and to avoid unnecessary contact, we encourage you to take advantage of absentee voting by mail and vote from the comfort and safety of your own home.
Absentee Voting & COVID-19
To cut down on unnecessary contact and to limit exposure at polling places on Election Day we strongly recommend you consider requesting an absentee ballot may be mailed to you. Submit your absentee ballot request and you will receive your ballot in the mail where you can vote from the comfort and safety of your own home and return it in the mail for free!
Want us to mail you an Absentee Ballot Request form? Complete the online form and an absentee ballot request form will be mailed to you. Then all you need to do is fill it out and send it back!
You can also download an absentee ballot request form and mail it in, call our office at (712) 328-5700, option 3, or email elections@pottcounty-ia.gov and include your name and mailing address and we will mail you a request form. You can also visit our absentee voting page for more information.
You may now drop off your voted absentee ballot to our new drop box located outside of the Courthouse.
In- Person Absentee Voting & COVID-19
Due to the temporary Courthouse closure In-Person Absentee Voting will be available at the Elections Building, located at 508 S 6th St. In-Person Absentee Voting is open May 4th through June 1st from 8am - 4:30pm.
To avoid lines and to avoid unnecessary contact we encourage you to take advantage of absentee voting by mail and vote from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Dates and Deadlines
- February 3 - First day to submit an Absentee Ballot Request; Caucus Day
- March 2 - March 25 - County Candidate Filing Begins
- March 20 - County candidate filing deadline for NPPO candidates, candidates nominated by petition, and township offices (open until 5pm)
- March 25 - County candidate filing deadline for republican and democrat candidates (open until 5pm)
- April 23 - Absentee Ballots will start being mailed out
- May 4 - First day to vote in-person absentee
- May 22 - Voter pre-registration deadline; Deadline to request an absentee ballot be mailed (open until 5pm)
- May 25 - Memorial Day; Auditor's office closed
- May 29 - Auditor's office open until 5pm
- May 30 - Saturday; Auditor's office open 9am-5pm
- June 1 - Absentee ballot in-person deadline (open until 5pm)
- June 2 - Primary Election Day
Poll Hours
Important information
- Voter ID will be required on Election Day. Voters going to the polls on Election Day will be required to provide ID in order to cast a regular ballot. The "oath option" that was available in 2018 is no longer an option.
- Voter ID number or Voter PIN is required when requesting an absentee ballot. Effective October 1, 2019, voters are required to provide either their driver's license or non-operator's ID number or their four digit voter PIN when requesting an absentee ballot be mailed to them or when voting absentee at the courthouse.
