Absentee Voting & COVID-19
To cut down on unnecessary contact and to limit exposure at polling places on Election Day we strongly recommend you consider requesting an absentee ballot be mailed to you. Submit your absentee ballot request and you will receive your ballot in the mail where you can vote from the comfort and safety of your own home and return it in the mail for free!
Want us to mail you an Absentee Ballot Request form? Complete the online form and an absentee ballot request form will be mailed to you. Then all you need to do is fill it out and send it back!
You can also download an absentee ballot request form and mail it in, call our office at (712) 328-5700, option 3, or email elections@pottcounty-ia.gov and include your name and mailing address and we will mail you a request form. You can also visit our absentee voting page for more information.
You may now drop off your voted absentee ballot to our new drop box located on the east side of the Courthouse.
In- Person Absentee Voting & COVID-19
In-Person Absentee Voting will be available at the Elections Building, located at 508 S 6th St. In-Person Absentee Voting is open October 5th through November 2nd from 8am - 4:30pm.
To avoid lines and to avoid unnecessary contact we encourage you to take advantage of absentee voting by mail and vote from the comfort and safety of your own home.

- October 5 - Absentee ballots ready; First day to vote in-person absentee; At Election Building (508 S 6th St)
- October 13 - Satellite Voting Available at Carter Lake Public Library and Iowa Western Student Center Reiver Room (9am - 3pm)
- October 24 - Saturday, Auditor's Office open; Voter pre-registration deadline; Deadline to request an absentee ballot be mailed; In-Person Voting Available at Election Building (508 S 6th St)
- October 31 - Saturday, Auditor's office open; At Election Building (508 S 6th St)
- November 2 - Absentee ballot in-person deadline; At Election Building (508 S 6th St)
- November 3 - Election Day
Poll Hours
Important information
- Voter ID will be required on Election Day. Voters going to the polls on Election Day will be required to provide ID in order to cast a regular ballot. The "oath option" that was available in 2018 is no longer an option.
- Voter ID number or Voter PIN is required when requesting an absentee ballot. Effective October 1, 2019, voters are required to provide either their driver's license or non-operator's ID number or their four digit voter PIN when requesting an absentee ballot be mailed to them or when voting absentee at the courthouse.
