Serving as the county Financial Officer, the Auditor’s Office is responsible for much of the county’s financial activities.

Taxes

Taxes are prepared annually by the Auditor's Office and are due September 1st (delinquent October 1st) and March 1st (delinquent April 1st.)

Budget

The County Auditor is responsible for the preparation and calculation of the county budget. The Auditor compiles all department budget requests and submits same to the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors for final approval. After state certification, the County Auditor compiles all taxing authority budgets to levy the taxes.

Accounts Payable

The Auditor's Office is charged with paying all of the bills incurred by every county department. This includes daily, monthly and annual balancing with the Treasurer’s office. County bills are required to be approved by the Board of Supervisors prior to payment. The public may review all bills upon request. Please email Accounts Payable with any questions.

Tax Credits

Iowa offers homestead, military, family farm, agricultural land, and disabled credits to eligible property owners. Disabled credit applications are available in the Treasurer's Office. All other credit applications are available in the Assessor's Office.

Payroll

The Auditor's Office is responsible for the payroll for the more than 400 county employees. Payroll is responsible for the 26 annual pay periods, withholding reports, insurance-related matters, and the IPERS retirement plan.
