The Assessor’s Office is a separate government entity established to classify and value all properties within the jurisdiction of Pottawattamie County.
It is a common misperception that the Assessor determines tax rates, calculates taxes, and/or collects taxes, but the Assessor solely focuses on property value. In addition, this office processes applications for certain tax-saving exemptions and credits such as Homestead Tax Credit & Exemption, Military Service Property Tax Exemption, and more. The Pottawattamie County Assessor’s office is dedicated to providing professional, accurate collection and analysis of property data to ensure equitable assessments in accordance with Iowa law.
