Hitchcock Nature Center Overlook Deck Replacement

Pottawattamie County (Owner) has completed design for replacement of an observation deck Hitchcock Nature Center Lodge. We are seeking contractors to bid work based upon the plans/specifications provided in the attached document.
Bids can be mailed to 227 S 6th Street, Room 204 (Conservation Department Main Office), Council Bluffs, IA, 51501 or emailed to Jeff Franco at [email protected]. Bids will be opened and publicly read in the Conservation Department Main Office on Friday November 13, 2026 at 10am or at such later time and place as may then be fixed.
Bids will be considered by the Owner at a public meeting to be held at Pottawattamie County Courthouse, 227 S 6th Street, Council Bluffs, IA at a date still to be determined.
The general nature of the work is as follows:
The project involves removing an existing observation deck at Hitchcock Nature Center's and replacing it with the observation deck specified in the attached plans. In addition, modifications to and expansion of the adjoining parking area would be completed as part of the project.
Additional details related to design are included in the engineering plans in the attached document.
A site visit with County staff and designing engineers will take place on November 9, 2026 at 2pm to review the project and answer related questions. Informal site visits can be conducted independently during park open hours, every day from 6am - 10pm. It is recommended that Hitchcock Nature Center staff be made aware in advance of informal site visits.
