The Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads Department has announced a temporary road closing for Old Mormon Bridge Road near Interstate 29.

Road closure is expected to begin September 26th and end September 30th as The Canadian Northern Railway reconstructs a rail track crossing on G37 (Old Mormon Bridge Road) near I-29. The closure will require closing both east bound and west bound traffic on G37 at this crossing. G37 (Old Mormon Bridge Road) will remain open for local traffic only east of the closure area.

A detour route will be posted by Pottawattamie County and the Iowa DOT directing traffic from the G37 and L20 (Old Lincoln Highway) intersection in Crescent going south on L20 (Old Lincoln Highway) to Kanesville Boulevard in Council Bluffs; then west on Kanesville Boulevard to North 16th Street (State Hwy 192); then north on North 16th Street to merge with northbound Interstate 29 and continue north to Interstate 680 west bound.

Old Lincoln Highway traffic experiences approximately 2,800 vehicles per day. The detour is expected to direct an additional 4,600 vehicles per day to the road during the closure.

The Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads Department has coordinated with the Iowa DOT as the closure also includes ramps to Interstate 680 from Old Mormon Bridge Road.

Advanced warning signs have been placed on roads to alert drivers of the upcoming closure. Local media, school districts, VFDs, E911, and Emergency Management have also been alerted.
