Historically, the dominant habitat in Iowa has been tall grass prairie. Once, massive herds of bison and elk roamed over this landscape. These large herbivores played a vital role in sustaining the prairie. During this special session of Homeschool in the Hills, we’ll examine how bison and elk helped shape the prairie and we’ll look at the complex relationship between humans and these large prairie dwellers. We’ll even get an opportunity to get an up close look at the bison and elk herds at Botna Bend Park.
